After an assessment of the jaw’s range of motion and consent received, a clean, gloved hand is used inside the patient's mouth to massage the muscles including the masseters, and lateral and medial pterygoids. This technique may be indicated when a patient is presenting with TMJ, tension in the jaw from clenching or grinding teeth, a whiplash injury or headaches and migraines. Massage is also performed on the outside of the jaw, temples and ears to relieve symptoms. Usually, this technique is done at the end of a massage treatment and can be included in any other treatment.
